One of the important features of Learning Management System (LMS) is employee engagement, which is ensured by successful creation of training programs. High-quality trainings generate value and many benefits. For starting a new training program, you should first define your needs and goals and then create a training plan. Implementing a relevant training program helps companies to boost employee motivation, as well as enhance their skills and help them think outside the box, which results in high-quality performance.
As an LMS software company, we suggest steps and tips on creating and implementing successful training program.
Identify your training needs
Any convenient and flexible training is the strength of a successful company. Employees who obtain the right training skills are considered to be more practical, creative and eager to align with company’s goals. When identifying company’s training needs, start by deciding which new skills can extend your business and solve today’s skill gaps in your workforce.
There are many ways to find out what kind of training your employees need. For example, you can use focus groups or surveys to understand the skills gaps and potential training and development needs. And only after recognizing those needs, set the corresponding goals that need to be achieved.
Develop learning objectives
Any great initiative starts with clear goals. It’s important to set the end point to know what you want to achieve through the training for your employees and for your company’s success. Use SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound) to ensure your objectives are attainable within a certain time. Employees who take the training should be able to identify what they will be able to do at the end of the training that they couldn’t do now and how will they contribute to the company as a whole.
Learning objectives should provide an assessment of employee performance and behaviour. Thus, objectives should be well identified as they influence your company’s future success!
Determine what training is needed
It’s necessary to conduct ongoing successful trainings to allow your employees fulfil their roles and remain motivated, engaged and compliant. In this fast-growing technological world, they need constant skill development to perform their tasks in the best possible way. To identify the training type of your staff, you should:
- adjust the skill levels of your employees,
- address the skill gaps within the business,
- decide which new skills are required to take your business forward.
Determine who needs to be trained
Knowing your audience is one of the most important steps in creating a training program. The more you recognize who takes the training, the more advantages you will have in training making process. While analysing your learners, you have to identify:
- Who needs this training?
- Why do they need it?
- What capabilities do they have?
- What e-Learning format will be best for your learners?
- What motivates them?
Plan training
Use a spreadsheet or learning management system (LMS) to track who has completed what training and when. With LMS, you can also generate reports to gain more information on each employee status and grade. Try out Smart Training’s “Team Management” course for FREE and see how it works.
Create useful and engaging learning
One of the most important things for employers is providing stimulating learning experiences for their workers!
Employees prefer learning methods that are flexible and don’t take much time. A great way to satisfy those needs and keep employees motivated is to provide an engaging content. If you create content, the substantial goal should be providing value. Using pictures, short texts and descriptions will make content more interesting which keep learners engaged and focused leading to higher testing scores. Do not let your learners just read or listen to slides. Create interactive elements to improve the effectiveness of the courses by adding short quiz questions to every slide to allow your learners check what they learned.
Setting up online learning courses is only half the battle whereas you have to keep your users engaged. Use the power of Gamification to involve your learners. Gamified courses lead to high performance and make learning experiences more productive. Gamification provides an informal learning atmosphere and allows people to feel the connection between learning and job. People don’t like boring things and are inspired by healthy competition.
Review your training program
It’s takes continuous planning to implement a training. In order to make sure that your program functions properly, you need to review it at regular intervals. Employee feedback is a good idea to modify and expand your training programs.
