Infection Control in the Dental Office

Infection control in the dental office has many moving parts of which DUWL’s is only one.

Having recently attended the OSAP conference in Tucson, I had the pleasure of attending a presentation from the CDC. During this presentation, several topics were discussed with the most “exciting” being impending guidance on Dental Unit Waterlines (DUWL). As many of you already know, infection control in the dental office has many moving parts of which DUWL’s is only one.

The reason for my excitement is that the CDC announced that they were assembling a “panel of experts” (scary I know), to collate the research, present opinions, and then distill this data into some straightforward guidance for dental practices. The distillation has been tentatively discussed to be ready for release in 12-18 months… great things take time.

Our friends at OSAP, as part of Dental Infection Control Awareness Month (DICAM23), have released some wonderful new infection control materials.

The good news though is that our friends at OSAP, as part of Dental Infection Control Awareness Month (DICAM23), have released some wonderful new infection control materials related to a whole host of topics of which DUWL is one.

Their guidance is especially interesting in that it reviews several studies, provides concrete testing information and recommendations, and even makes recommendations on creating a water maintenance plan for dental practices.

In the coming months, Smart Training will be taking this information and creating some additional training to not only help protect our clients and their patients, but to aid in fulfilling some of the team members continuing education requirements for licensure.

Isn’t that a huge part of what we do as a provider of online OSHA and HIPAA training?

I particularly enjoyed the catchphrase or slogan for the month-long event; “Staying in the know together.” After all, isn’t that a huge part of what we do as a provider of online OSHA and HIPAA training?
